Why I love this book
Well, I can never get enough of Highlanders. Something about that accent…Mmm. Anyway, with so many Highlander books out there, sometimes the storylines can get staid and repetitive, but I love what Meggan did with the whole dying twin trading places thing. She brings some suspense to the story that keeps you reading to see what’s the dealio. It’s really fun to see Isobel and Kenneth fall in love and wonder how in the world the whole deception thing is going to work out. It’s a really fun read.

About the Author
I’ve been writing stories since I was little–I finished my first story (3 spiral notebooks) when I was eleven. I think it’s in a box in the garage, actually. Because, really, everyone should keep the first story they ever wrote. Sure, it featured the boy I had a crush on, unicorns and rainbows and a witch that looked suspiciously like my sixth grade teacher, but whatever.
Okay, yeah, it’s super embarrassing. Especially when you consider that I didn’t exactly know the difference between profuse and perverse, and used them interchangeably.
Mmhm. Well. Let’s move on.
While graduate school effectively killed the writer in me for a time, the stories kept percolating in my head. After my son was born, I decided to try my hand at writing romance novels. I finished my first, wrote a second, and started entering contests. Eventually, The Marker got picked up by Soul Mate Publishing, and the rest is history.
When I’m not writing–or at work–you can find me hiking in the hills behind my house, camping in my tiny camp trailer with my two dogs, two kids, and lawman husband, or with my nose in a book.

Why I Love this Recipe
I’ve never been to Scotland, but I’ve known quite a few Scots and besides the whole haggis thing the one predominant feature they all noted about food in Scotland is that it’s all deep fried. One friend even said you couldn’t even get a salad there unless it too was fried up. Well, I’m no stranger to the deliciousness of deep frying – it makes everything better. Today I’m trying a new recipe. I’ve conglomerated recipes from the net, including one from my favorite TV chef -Nigella Lawson. I saw her make these one time and thought she was insane.
- Mars bars (if you can’t find Mars bars, Milky Ways will work too)
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1/2 cup cornflour
- 1 pinch baking soda
- 1 cup milk or 1 can of beer
- oil (for deep frying)
- Chill the chocolate bars by keeping it in the fridge, but don’t freeze it.
- Mix the flours and baking soda together.
- Add milk (traditional) or beer (which gives a lighter result) until you get a batter with the consistency of thin cream.
- Heat the oil until a small piece of bread will brown in a few seconds, but don’t allow to smoke.
- Remove wrapper from chilled chocolate bar.
- Dip the bars in the batter and coat completely
- Carefully lower into hot oil and fry until golden brown.
